Hope in Darkness

Take a step back, and just pause for a moment.
Rest your eyes on the lights of your tree, and let them become
All your small gestures of kindness this year.  The doors
You held open, the times you reached out, your smiles and
Quiet noble good deeds.  And all the ones you received.

Now see beyond your tree through the darkness
To your neighbor’s tree.  And all the lights on all the trees
Inside and out, from Alaska to South Africa.
Let all that kindness and caring for friend, neighbor and stranger
Reassure you:  There’s abundant reason to hope.
Light-years of hope.
When it’s dark outside, hold on to the light.

May your Christmas Be Merry and Very Bright!
